Question by jesswzmn: How does a strong manufacturing base make a country stronger economically and even safer militarily? why is this fact lost on so many so called experts?
Why are they blind to these fact? Is their agenda more loyal to something greater than country first???
Best answer:
Answer by Pfo A strong manufacturing base is what allowed us to quickly become a dominant force in WW2 and ultimately turn the tide.
It’s so obvious why it makes a country stronger economically that it’s not worth answering.
That being said, times have changed. Our manufacturing was a good thing in WW2, it isn’t now. Cost of labor is too high to be profitable, and it’s not worth throwing money in the pit just to keep it afloat.

Question by Mysterious Gryphon: Which is a better romantic weekend: cabin in woods w/hot tub, or historic hotel in fabulous big city? We love big cities but also enjoy peaceful weekends away. Both cost about the same, equal distance from home. Cabin has a kitchenette so we wouldn’t have to eat out for every single meal, but meals out in a small town cost less than one fancy dinner in the city.
Suggestions?
Best answer:
Answer by JK I think if you want a nice romantic weekend, a cabin in the woods would be great. You won’t be bothered by anyone, no noise, no interruptions, no distractions. It will give you real, one on one time.

Name: Frankie and Alice Release date: February 4, 2011 Director(s): Geoffrey Sax Cast: Halle Berry, Vince Cirrincione, Simon DeKaric and Hassain Zaidi Genre(s): Drama
"Where are we?" Frankencow enquired, as she emerged from her reverie.
"I told you," Alice said, "daydreams evolve into reality here in Wonderland."
Frankie eyed the girl, but was distracted eventually by what she saw on the wall.
"You see, Frankie," Alice blathered on, gesturing to the encompassing room, "we have what we need to rescue Bingo. Exactly enough."
"Have we been enchanted?" the little cow was worried now. Ever since she and Bingo had fallen down that endless tunnel, her world had been a little eerie. But what she saw on the wall elevated her anxiety. Wasn’t that Bingo’s rocketship?
Alice’s eyes evaded hers. "I . . . I don’t know," the young girl expelled with a loud sigh.
"Exactly enough, huh?" Frankie erupted. Eventually she would extol Alice’s elegant airs, but right now any excitement evaded her.
"Eight," was Alice’s only reply, and it left Frankie eager to evacuate the strange place she’d entered.

Question by Toaster: do you think they exaggerated the movie IP MAN 2? do you thin they over exaggerated the fights in IP MAN 2 as it is very quick and skilled but now days i dont really see people fight anything like that? and do you think that they kinda made the European people a bit…tooo…unfair? but you know, I still love this movie but do you think they exaggerated somethings?
Best answer:
Answer by GT No.. I find the movie good. I bet you haven’t really see how Chinese fight do you? Also, this was really how the British treated the Chinese. Go read History about that guy, yap man , that was only just after world war I, i saw one of the dates in the movie, i think it was in the 1930s so they were still under the British Colony.

Green Hornet in the “Alley of Dhoom”

Following on from the "Boy Wonder" photograph I promised to dig out my old "Green Hornet" corgi "Black Beauty" car. Laura wondered what all the banging around in the shed was for – and now ya know (Now, I also discovered a "Captain Scarlet" SPV and a Simon Snorkel fire engine ….. what have we started ? ! ? )
For more detail see the Wikipedia entry for The Green Hornet. The character started life in 1930′s American radio. He later progressed to comic books, TV and also films. In most incarnations the Green Hornet is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day who by night goes out in his masked "Green Hornet" identity to fight crime as a vigilante, accompanied by his similarly masked Asian manservant Kato (an early role for Bruce Lee) and driving a car, equipped with advanced technology, called "Black Beauty". The Green Hornet is often portrayed as a fair-to-above average hand-to-hand combatant and is often armed with a gun that sprays knock-out gas (an electric stun weapon called the "hornet’s sting" was added to his arsenal in the TV series). Originally, the show was to be called The Hornet, but the name was changed to The Green Hornet so that it could be more easily trademarked. The color was chosen because green hornets were reputed to be the angriest.

Young Buddhists about to endure the rites
Image by Stuck in Customs Away from the main temples of Angkor, this temple rests about two hours from Siem Reap through thick jungles and a sketchy road. As I made my way through the stone halls and entrance ways, I emerged onto this scene of a bunch of young Buddhists preparing for the next phase of their rites.
I think I ended up talking to almost a dozen different monks in and around Angkor. It was very interesting to hear their version of what happened with the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot, and that whole mess. They killed over 1 million Cambodians after the US pulled out of Vietnam, eliminating anyone with "involvement in free-market activities". I was a little afraid to tell anyone there that I sometimes speak at Libertarian conferences, in case there were a few rogue Khmer Rouge agents roaming the jungles!
Some of the stories are a bit sketchy to be reprinted in this format, so if we ever meet for coffee some day, I'll be glad to tell you… but there is some messed up stuff around there.
On a lighter note, I'm headed to Vegas next week for just a day and a half. I have a little speaking engagement, but I'll be spending every spare waking moment living with my right brain and seeing what bits are appropriate to capture for you all!
Twitter.com – Follow Us! Barney’s Version hits theaters on December 31st, 2010. Cast: Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rosamund Pike, Minnie Driver, Rachelle Lefevre, Scott Speedman, Bruce Greenwood, Saul Rubinek, Jake Hoffman, Anna Hopkins, Cle Bennett, Harvey Atkin, Mark Addy, Maury Chaykin, Macha Grenon “Barney’s Version” is the warm, wise, and witty story of Barney Panofsky, (Paul Giamatti), a seemingly ordinary man who lives an extraordinary life. A candid confessional, told from Barney’s point of view, the film spans four decades and two continents, taking us through the different “acts” of his unusual history. There is his first wife, Clara, (Rachelle Lefevre), a flame-haired, flagrantly unfaithful free sprit with whom Barney briefly lives la vie de Boheme in Rome. The “Second Mrs. P.,” (Minnie Driver), is a wealthy Jewish Princess who shops and talks incessantly, barely noticing that Barney is not listening. And it is at their lavish wedding that Barney meets, and starts pursuing, Miriam (Rosamund Pike), his third wife, the mother of his two children, and his true love. With his father, Izzy (Dustin Hoffman) as his sidekick, Barney takes us through the many highs, and a few too many lows, of his long and colorful life. Not only does Barney turn out to be a true romantic, he is also capable of all kinds of sneaky acts of gallantry, generosity, and goodness when we – and he – least expect it. His is a gloriously full life, played out on a grand scale. And, at its …
Question by Chelsey M: Does anyone remember a non-animated Winnie the Pooh tv show/movie? Ok, so I have vague recollections of watching a Winnie the Pooh TV show back in the 90s that my grandparents recorded off of the Disney channel onto a VHS. I’m fairly certain it was a show, though presumably it could have been a movie. I’m almost 100% positive that it was NOT animated, they were people in costumes, like at Disney World. The episode I remember best has to do with cleaning up. “A place for everything and everything in its place.” I can find no reference to this anywhere, and it’s extremely frustrating. I know it existed! I watched it! Does anyone remember this? Do you remember the name? The reason I’m so obsessed is I swear there was a cleaning song, and I would much prefer to use that one with my children instead of relying on Barney’s version. It is NOT Springtime with Roo, which came out in 2004. I’m looking for something older than that. Along the lines of that other show with a bunch of animals at a circus (a cat that did tightrope walking, a dog that sang “I’m just a lucky dog, I’m just a lucky dog”, something doing a magic show, etc.) that I also cannot find anywhere. It too had what I believe were people in costumes. If you know what that one is too, please let me know! Actually, the answer is Welcome to Pooh Corner, though I have yet to find the episode I described. I would just delete the question, but maybe someone, somewhere, is wondering the same thing.
