Genre: Foreign, Drama Director: Iciar Bollain Cast: Luis Tosar, Gael Garcia Bernal, Juan Carlos Aduviri Writers: Paul Laverty In theaters: February 18th, 2011 Synopsis: The film TAMBIEN LA LLUVIA (Even the Rain), directed by Iciar Bollain and written by Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty, is about, in the director’s words, [resistance and friendship. It's a personal journey -- an adventure undertaken by characters which brings the past into the present.] The story intertwines Columbus’ arrival in the Americas with the making of a film; it mixes the Spanish crown’s exploitation of gold in the 16th century with the fight for water in Cochabamba in the year 2000. The film takes us from the fiction of a period film to the reality of a film set in a small Bolivian city. And from that reality to another which is deeper and more dramatic, that faced by people with practically no rights, prohibited by law from collecting even the rain. But Tambien la Lluvia (Even the Rain) does much more than compare historic events. It transcends the detail and delves into something much deeper and more universal. Deep down it’s a story about loyalty, camaraderie, and empathy.

Question by mushygreens: Is it bad to wear calfskin and other leather boots in the rain, even with water and stain repellent?
I don’t own rain boots, so I tend to wear my leather boots in the rain (not suede). Am I doing harm to them, even though they are coated with repellent?
I live in California, so it doesn’t rain often. When it does, it normally isn’t heavy rainfall.

The water repellent you have used helps, but leather is still porous and when the boots get wet if affects them. This affects the leather in various ways over time.
I also am in California, and I consider my treated leather boots my weather gear. Sure, they get water stains and salt stains sometimes, but I don’t like wearing synthetic anything, and after a few years of hard use I buy new boots.
But then, I’m a country girl, who wears heavy duty boots, not sissy boots. Sissy boots, I guess, should stay dry.
